midata privacy statement

midata is a voluntary programme the UK Government is undertaking with businesses to give consumers better access to the electronic personal data that companies hold about them.

Within Online Banking, you can download a midata file containing 12 months of transaction history for your current account (transactions for the last 30 days are not included). Information such as your name, address, sort code and account number are removed from the data.

The file will look something like this:

What can I do with midata?

Once downloaded, you can upload your data to another company. For instance, you may want to upload the file to participating web comparison websites that can use the data to give you information about other banks’ current accounts.

Keep your data safe and secure

You should be aware it's your responsibility to keep this data file safe and secure.

  • Consider carefully who you provide your data to. Before you upload the file read the company’s terms and conditions and/or privacy policy to make sure you understand the ways in which it will use your data. We can’t guarantee how securely other organisations will process your information.
  • Ensure you have anti-virus protection on any device that contains your midata file. You can get advice about how to keep your devices and data safe by visiting our Security Centre.
  • Ensure that your midata file is encrypted before sending it to a third party or storing it on portable media such as a USB stick or CD.

Important information

Before you upload or send your data to another company, you may want to check with any joint account holder that they agree to share this information.

By downloading your midata file, you are acknowledging the information contained within the privacy statement and understand that when you pass the file to other third party companies you do so at your own risk.

You must not disclose your security details, which include your Online Banking login details or password, to any other person, including any organisation to which you may make your midata information available.
